"I woke up and I didn't know who I was"
As a young Professional Makeup Artist I had two artists that I really looked up to, Kevyn Aucoin and Bobbi Brown. I envied and wanted to have the confidence that Bobbi Brown did so badly. She was a makeup artist that did not have to be flashy, a woman of strength that believed in letting women shine with natural looks. And then the extreme in Kevyn Aucoin where he was flashy and so out there, he would take somebody so plain and create a masterpiece. I was so torn between these two worlds, and my world ended up being the artist that wore 5in heels, that would spray paint a woman from head to toe to look like the Oscar Statuette for a billboard, living on Red Bull and Wheat Thins, mimicking what the world wanted me to be, and then one day I woke up...and I didn’t know who I was.
