This book is what I call a “trigger” book. It almost made me stop reading it a few times. We all have our own backgrounds, stories, and the things that give us nightmares. If you have ever lived in a broken family, dealt with alcoholics, damaged parents, abuse, and/or are from a poor home (with children starving) warning, this could be a trigger book for you. On the other side, as gut wrenching as it was, (I mean, I wanted to murder the mother through the book on several occasions, by shaking her so hard). However, the moments of brokenness and warmth came shining through in the book.
