Gratitude for Books

✨Gratitude Day 8 ✨

Today I want to highlight my love for reading and being in a book club 🤓.

Growing up, reading did not come easy for me, I struggled with dyslexia (which was not a common diagnosis back then), I was able to memorize so I skirted around the reading part, and I had parents on the opposite sides of this issue (my mom being a prolific and speed reader and my father never read books). I always loved being read to, but just I learned that it was easier to memorize than to try and love to read. And then, fast forward to 2000 when I had a daughter and I wanted her to be passionate about books (at my core I am a total nerd). And that became a huge part of who she is and what she loves. From the week she was born we were in a book store with her, and now she is publishing her first book (small plug). But as I have healed from childhood trauma over the last 7 years (especially), I began reading, finding books I loved, and taking time to read. 5 years ago when we moved into our current house I was determined to find or start a Book Club, I knew this would take me out of my comfort zone, push me to read different genres, make me discuss the book we read, give me a time limit on the book. I found my home. To all those that say “I don’t have time to read” you make time. I made it like a job or school to me, no guilt in sitting down for a hour to read, it’s part of what I do and now what I love. I am forever thankful to be able to get lost in a good book, to the authors that write thought-provoking books, to my mom who was my first example in being passionate about books, and to the book club ladies that push me monthly.

👍👍 for Cloud Cuckoo Land

A Novel By Anthony Doerr.

Absolutely worth the 600 page read.

“The instant New York Times bestseller and finalist for the 2021 National Book Award is “wildly inventive, a humane and uplifting book for adults that’s infused with the magic of childhood reading experiences.” —The New York Times Book Review”
